Coup de chance (lit.'Stroke of Luck')[3] is a 2023 French comedy-drama thriller film written and directed by Woody Allen. It stars Lou de Laâge, Valérie Lemercier, Melvil Poupaud, and Niels Schneider. It premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on 4 September 2023.[1] It was released in France on September 27, 2023, by Metropolitan Filmexport.

Plot

Fanny and Jean have everything of the ideal couple: fulfilled in their professional life, they live in a magnificent apartment in the uptown of Paris and seem as in love as on the first day. But when Fanny meets, by chance, Alain, a former high school friend, the situation is reversed. They see each other again and become close very quickly. Alain, now a writer, makes no secret of the fact that he has always been in love with her. At the same time, during the social evenings of her husband, who, in his profession, "makes already rich people richer", the woman finds herself increasingly uncomfortable.

Fanny and Alain thus begin an intense extramarital affair, to the point that she seems determined to leave her husband. The latter, suspicious of some details, contacts private investigators to find out if his wife has a lover, and his fears are confirmed. So, he hires two trusted criminals to get rid of Alain. After his murder, Fanny, no longer finding her lover and finding his apartment empty, becomes convinced that Alain has abandoned her due to lack of courage. She gets closer to her husband, with whom she plans to have a child.

Camille, Fanny's mother, however, learns of an old colleague of Jean who was found dead in mysterious circumstances and, although the matter had been dismissed as a suicide, she is unable to convince herself of it. Even if her daughter doesn't believe her, Camille tries to introduce this suspicion into her, which Jean becomes aware of, deciding that a new victim is needed to protect himself from any problem. He then organizes an "accident" with one of the criminals during his usual hunting in the countryside.

While Camille and Jean went into the woods, Fanny had to return to Paris to bring some medicine to her mother. Having entered her ex-lover's apartment, she discovers a manuscript of his in a drawer, and understands that there is really something strange behind it, because Alain would never have left without the only copy of his still unfinished book. In the woods, now in an isolated place, Jean takes up his rifle and points it at Camille, but he is suddenly shot down by another hunter, who mistook him for an animal.
