María Francisca Bello in 2022

María Francisca Campos Bello (born 17 September 1987) is a Chilean psychologist, feminist and politician of the Socialist Party who has served as a member of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies from District 6 since 2021.[1] She is the first female Deputy elected from Aconcagua.[2][3]

Background and career

María Francisca Bello was born in Santiago and raised in San Felipe where she attended the Girls’ High School before proceeding to Andrés Bello University for a degree in psychology. She became interested in politics during her teen years, and identified with the Socialist Party. At university, she was actively involved in Student Federation politics. She ran for the mayorship of San Felipe in the 2021 municipal election but was defeated.[4][5] That year, she also ran in the parliamentary election for Deputies and won the District 6 on the nomination of Approve Dignity AD, a coalition of political parties. She is one of the few openly bisexual Deputies, and advocates sexual diversity in the parliament.[6][7][8]

In 2022, she made a complaint to the PDI about her identity being impersonated on Instagram offering adult content. She stated that "I cannot deprive myself of dancing or dressing the way I want because a malicious person is going to use photos in a bad way."[9]
